Information & Requirements for Classes:

  1. All puppies and dogs must be in the home for at least 2 weeks.
  2. SHOTS: Your puppy must be current on Rabies and Core (DHPP) vaccinations as recommended by your veterinarian before attending classes at TSKC. Puppies should receive the rabies vaccine by a licensed veterinarian at 12 weeks, according to Missouri law. DHPP usually covers distemper, parvovirus, parainfluenza, and two types of adenovirus (hepatitis). Non-core (optional) vaccines include Bordetella (kennel cough), Lyme, and Leptospira. These vaccines are recommended by veterinarians depending on your dog’s activities. Please provide proof of age-appropriate rabies and other vaccines or documented titer testing prior to attending classes at TSKC. Puppies must have age-appropriate shots with additional shot documentation supplied as given.
  3. ILLNESS: In the event either you or your dog is ill, please follow these guidelines: If you are sick, please do not attend class. It’s helpful to contact your instructors so they are aware of your absence. If your dog is showing signs of illness, including (but not limited to) coughing, gagging, sneezing, runny eyes or nose, fever, diarrhea, vomiting, or lethargy, he needs to stay home. Please consult with your instructor, who may want to you come without your dog so you don’t miss the instructions. In addition, recent surgeries or stitches would indicate your dog needs to not attend class. Your veterinarian should give you guidelines as to when your dog can resume normal activities.
  4. CHILDREN: While we encourage the entire family to be involved in the training of your dog, we ask that no more than two people are on the floor working a dog in class. No children under the age of 12 may work a dog in class. Students must be a minimum of 12 years of age (accompanied by a parent or adult) to work a dog in class.
  5. COLLAR : A regular buckle, snap or martingale collar is great for class. For training purposes, we will not use harnesses or slip leads, etc.
  6. LEASH: Please bring a 4 foot leash. We usually have a few in stock for sale if you do not have one. No retractable, flexi-type leashes may be used.
  7. Soft Treats (A couple different varieties) – something that is small and your dog can eat quickly. Besides dog treats, cooked chicken, hot dogs and string cheese work well.
  8. Treat bag – something to carry your treats in.
  9. Wear comfortable shoes. We don’t want you to trip.
  10. Please arrive 5-10 minutes early each week. Use the north-west door to enter if another class is in session. Class will start promptly at its scheduled time.
  11. Please refrain from talking to other students during training sessions. We need all students to be able to hear what is being asked.
  12. Please keep your dog at least 3 feet away from all other dogs at all times. When your dog’s leash is hooked on a hook, please ensure they can’t reach another dog by tying your leash shorter. If your dog is barking or disruptive, do your best to quiet them down by using treats to regain their attention.
  13. Do not feed your dog their evening meal before class. This will make them want to work for their treat.
