Intro to AKC Tracking Seminar

Cost:  $100 Working Spot or $50 Audit Spot

(only 8 working spots available)

This seminar is for beginners new to AKC tracking or those starting a new dog.  The format will alternate between seated lecture/interactive discussion periods and hand on practice laying and running tracks.  All types of tracking tests will be discussed but we will focus on the TD Test.

Working spots are available to dogs 12 weeks and older.

Items needed for the seminar:

  1. A non-restrictive harness is recommended (eventually required for tracking) but the seminar can be done on a buckle collar if the handler has sufficient control of their dog.
  2. You will need a 6′ leash (required)
  3. You will need a longer line of 15-20′. (required) (Eventually, a 40′ line is required but isn’t necessary for this seminar)
  4. Gloves for handlers to wear (recommended)
  5. Bring a few of the following: Cloth or leather gloves, bandanas, socks & handkerchiefs to use as articles (required)
  6. Bring your dog’s morning and evening kibble to the seminar along with LOTS of small, yummy, smelly treats (Frozen Biljac is perfect for this) (required)
  7. Handlers should dress appropriately for weather conditions and bring a crate to crate your dog during indoor class periods
  8. Auditors WILL lay tracks and should also dress accordingly.
  9. Bring a clipboard, pencil and eraser and paper (graph paper is best) for map making. (required)

    Vaccinations/Titer Testing

    I understand that my dog must be up-to-date on shots which includes DHPP and Rabies (must be given by a veterinarian). Bordetella may also be recommended by your veterinarian, and TSKC also recommends it. By electronically signing hereto, I attest that my dog is current on vaccinations.
