AKC Fetch

Fetch is a newer sport with AKC in their Family Dog Program.  It celebrates what most dogs like to do – FETCH!!

Fetch was created as an activity where owners could have fun with their dogs, doing something their dog loves and earn titles while doing so.

There are 4 levels to compete at currently with Fetch: Novice, Intermediate, Advanced & Retriever.  In Novice there are 3 single throws between barriers at 30′.  The dog must bring back the item and drop it within 2 steps of the handler.  As the levels progress, the difficulty increases.  In the Advanced & Retriever levels, the dogs will need to learn directed retrieving.  In the Retriever level, the dog will have two double retrieves and a triple retrieve all from behind blinds.  This requires the dog to remember where the bumper or ball was dropped in order to be sent and retrieve the correct one.

This is a sport that uses a dog’s natural abilities to fetch coupled with teamwork from the handler.  Dogs 6 month’s of age or older are welcome to compete that have a full AKC registration, purebred alternative listing, foundation stock service registration or all mixed breeds who have a Canine Partners registration.
